Health Psychologist, ASLM Fellow
Mark Anns is a Health Psychologist and Fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine with a career spanning clinical service delivery and health policy across Australia’s public and private sectors.
Based in Sydney, Mark is the founder of Psych & Lifestyle, a practice and advocacy brand built on a simple but underutilised premise: that lifestyle interventions including nutrition, movement, sleep, social connection, stress management, and purposeful activity are not adjuncts to psychological care but central to it.
His work sits at the intersection of health psychology and lifestyle medicine, integrating evidence from both disciplines to address the gap between what the research supports and what clinical practice routinely delivers. Mark is a vocal advocate for prevention-first approaches, arguing that mental health outcomes will not improve at a population level without structural reform to how care is designed, funded, and trained.
He has a strong interest in artificial intelligence and its implications for health and mental health care. Mark has written on how psychology arrived late to the AI debate, and argues that the profession’s current focus on app regulation reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of how AI develops. Rather than reactive oversight of yesterday’s technology, he calls for health professionals to engage seriously with AI’s potential to improve health and well-being at a global scale and to position themselves as active shapers of that future.
He is currently under contract for Mental Health by Design: Life Redesign, examining why increased treatment investment has not reduced mental disorder prevalence in high-income countries and what a prevention-centred system could look like instead.
