HOW² Te Ako Charitable Trust
HOW² Te Ako Charitable Trust supports former refugees and ethnic communities in Palmerston North by providing health education, wellness and wellbeing services that promote healthy, sustainable lives. The Trust provides a culturally safe space where community members can connect with its health team and access free workshops covering women’s health, heart health education with guest cardiologists, sun safety in partnership with the Cancer Society, healthy families and family violence support, and other areas of health and wellbeing.
HOW² also offers a wide range of community activities, including yoga, tai chi, art, sewing, cooking, gardening, outdoor sports, a men’s coffee group and youth programmes. Its driving school provides both simulator and on-road lessons, helping community members work towards obtaining a driver’s licence, an important step towards greater independence and employment opportunities.
The NDC Institute
The NDC Institute provides world-class online education and resources for health professionals in Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC), also known as the Possums programs. This evidence-based approach supports infant development and parent wellbeing during the critical early months of life, with programs covering breastfeeding and lactation, infant cry-fuss and sleep concerns, sensory-motor development, and perinatal and infant mental health.
Healthcare professionals play a vital role in translating this research into practice. By expanding access to NDC training, more practitioners can provide genuinely holistic, neuroprotective care to families. The NDC Institute is a proud Australian general practice initiative.
The Men’s Table
The Men’s Table enhances men’s mental and emotional health by fostering meaningful friendships and community belonging. Their vision is “Healthy Men, Healthy Masculinities, Healthy Communities.” The Men’s Table creates and supports safe spaces, called Tables, for diverse men to have intentional conversations about their lives and wellbeing. These Tables promote openness and support, forming long-term connections. The program aims to establish 1,000 new Men’s Tables across Australia.
Walking Football 4 Health Victoria
Walking Football 4 Health Victoria mission is to foster community connection, social inclusion, and participation. Not modified as an afterthought but created with inclusion at its core. A format where age, ability, and background aren’t barriers, but part of the richness of the experience. Where families can play together, connections are strengthened across generations, and everyone has a place.
Too often, we create separate programs in the name of inclusion, rather than designing spaces where everyone can belong together.
Walking Football 4 Health Victoria shows what’s possible when we start with people, not performance, creating spaces where football truly becomes the beautiful game, welcoming everyone to play.
At a time when many people feel lonely, and communities are changing fast, initiatives like this matter more than ever. They don’t just get people moving – they bring people together.
