Dr Louise Sterling is a GP Obstetrician who has lived and worked in Gippsland for more than 20 years. Rural general practice has shaped her career – holistic, community-centred, and grounded in caring for families across generations.
Early in her career, Dr Sterling focused on maternity care, supporting up to 200 women and their families each year. She has always believed that healthy pregnancies build healthy families and, in turn, healthy communities. Many of the women she once supported through pregnancy are now navigating midlife, and her practice has evolved alongside them.
Dr Sterling is passionate about empowering women to understand the lifelong value of Lifestyle Medicine – nourishing food, movement, sleep, emotional wellbeing, and avoiding harmful substances. She recognises that women are too often made to feel they must do or be more; her role is to offer time, space, and evidence-based support so they can reconnect with their goals and make sustainable, meaningful changes.
She sees midlife as an important opportunity to reset. Now in her late 40s, Dr Sterling feels healthier than ever after recognising burnout and gradually transforming her own wellbeing through small, consistent choices. She is optimistic about ageing well and making decisions now that support a vibrant future.
Dr Sterling lives on a small farm in the Gippsland countryside and spends as much time outdoors as she can. She has recently (and imperfectly) learned to surf, and she loves cooking, sharing meals, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
