Looking beyond the number on the scales to address your patient’s relationship with food

21 May 2024 | 5:00pm AEST | 7:00pm NZST

For many, a strong emphasis on weight loss and food restriction isn’t helpful or empowering and can do more damage than good. We’ll challenge the status quo and get you to think about the underlying needs of your patient and their relationship with food, even when they come to you for weight loss support. We’ll cover the benefits of flipping the conversation towards health and lifestyle change and enjoyable nutrition instead of fixating on that number on the scales.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the impact of weight stigma in healthcare, the influence of our own personal biases about body size, and the limitations of restrictive diets and weight-centred care.
  • Be introduced to the intuitive eating principles and learn what an intuitive eating assessment looks like and how it can help you in your practice.
  • Understand how you can apply these concepts to your everyday practice and be armed with tips, tricks and conversation starters.
