First ASLM Fellowships awarded at Lifestyle Medicine 2016

Hearty congratulations to the first ASLM members to be awarded the ASLM Fellowship in an inaugural presentation at Lifestyle Medicine 2016! Above (from left): Dr Caroline West, Dr Kate Marsh, Dr Darren Morton, Dr Paul Rankin, Dr Sally Padgett and Dr John Padgett.

The ASLM Fellowship is arguably the first fully multidisciplinary fellowship in Australasia, representing the sort of collaborative thinking and paradigm shift required to effectively address the epidemic of chronic and lifestyle-related diseases that is currently challenging an unsustainable health care system.

Its purpose is to provide education and training in the evidence-based practice of Lifestyle Medicine, whilst providing collaboration and peer support amongst like-minded practitioners and professionals. On awarding of the Fellowship and maintenance of requirements, Fellows will be entitled to use the post nominals ‘FASLM’ as an indication of their expert standing in the field of Lifestyle Medicine.

The ASLM Fellowship is open to all full members of the society, including GPs, medical specialists, all AHPRA registered practitioners, some other degree-qualified allied health practitioners, public health professionals and researchers and educators in fields related to Lifestyle Medicine. Being a multidisciplinary fellowship means it can be undertaken from a clinical, public health, research or education perspective.

Congratulations also to the first recipients of the honorary ASLM fellowship, awarded for extraordinary career achievement in a field of importance to Lifestyle Medicine (from left): Dr Hamish Meldrum (presenting the awards), Prof Kerin O’Dea, Prof Boyd Swinburn and A/Prof Felice Jacka. We are honoured by their acceptance of the award.
